The American experience is overcoming obstacles
What is overcoming obstacles?
Overcoming obstacles is pretty self explanatory. It is the success of conquering problems. Every person (and character) will have to overcome an obstacle at some point. An obstacle can be a person, a place, a thing, or an idea.
Overcoming obstacles in...

Huck overcame many obstacles, including Widow Douglas and Miss Watson, Pap, etc... But Huck also overcomes some obstacles with himself (self vs. self). He learns who he is, and he learns who his friends are.
A Raisin in the Sun
Obstacles including family problems, poverty, and racism are all portrayed in this play. Walter Lee Younger is willing to do anything for money, but he is convinced that he cannot give up his dignity in front of his son. They learn to overcome their family problems, and they also overcome the racism and decide to do what they want. They learn to live happily with the poverty, but it is unclear whether or not they ever overcome the poverty.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The two main obstacles in this book are Nurse Ratched, and the men's imaginations. Nurse Ratched creates this horrid environment that does not help these mental patients at all. The men even believe that they are worthless. McMurphy on the other hand, he overcame Nurse Ratched, and showed the men that they are more than just inmates. McMurphy helps all of the men overcome these obstacles.

A Picture
So it isn't a song, or a movie, or an essay, or a book, but it still portrays an important message about overcoming obstacles. How to overcome an obstacle is very important. As shown in the picture, there are four options to overcoming an obstacle. One, one can give up. Two, one can use a logical and easy way to overcome the obstacle. Three, one can do way more work than is necessary and overwhelm themselves. Fourth, one could choose a way to overcome the obstacle that requires destruction of some type. Obstacles should be overcome in logical and easy ways. |
